During a press conference today, the NZ Prime Minister confirmed she’d recently helped a mother-of-two who’d forgotten her wallet while out shopping at a Countdown store in Ponsonby, Auckland.
The woman had posted on Facebook after the encounter, saying Ardern had stepped in to pay for her groceries when she couldn’t locate her wallet.
“Just when you think Jacinda Ardern couldn’t get any more lovely, low key and authentic … she goes and pays for your groceries at the supermarket, because you’ve got your shopping, have two kids with you and are about to put it all back as you forgot your wallet.”
Although the woman has since deleted the post, her friend confirmed the chance meeting via Twitter.
Great article. Also, like we didn’t love her enough, @jacindaardern paid for my friends’ shopping in the supermarket the other day when she had forgotten her purse and had two screaming kids in tow. SIGH! https://t.co/wsu0ukcJmB

When Ardern was asked by a journalist whether the situation had occurred as suggested by the poster, she replied, “Yes.”
When asked why, she simply gave the reason, “Because she was a mum.”
