The single best line was uttered in Michigan’s Senate yesterday, perfectly highlighting how weird and warped the world has become.
During a bizarre statement, Republican Senator Jonathan Lindsey described Donald Trump as a “father figure” for Americans, suggesting that the moniker “daddy” bestowed on him recently by NATO chief Mark Rutte should be embraced.
“Maybe in these resolutions going forward, we could have a little bit of recognition of like, Daddy Trump, is who we’re going to oppose, or something like that. Get creative with it” Lindsey implored.
A brief and uncomfortable silence followed, before gay Democratic Senator Jeremy Moss responded:
“You don’t wanna know what daddy means in my community”.
The entire chamber erupted in fits of chuckles.
The GOP’s attempts to land “daddy” as a part of their pursuit of authoritarian rule and the fetishisation of strongman power, is all shades of disturbing. But in one perfectly delivered line, Moss flipped the script.
The GOP fears drag queens and queer slang, so it’s deliciously ironic they’ve now handed Trump a nickname ripped straight from Grindr.
