Trump labels Marjorie Taylor Greene a 'traitor' over Epstein files

Trump labels Marjorie Taylor Greene a ‘traitor’ as she demands transparency on Epstein documents

Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, a long-time MAGA ally, says she is receiving threats to her safety after US president Donald Trump withdrew his support over her calls for the release of the Epstein files.

Greene is among a number of conservatives who’ve been adamant about the need to release all the documents in the files associated with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Speaking to CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, Greene said that while she still supports Trump, she doesn’t agree with his efforts to keep the Epstein files hidden.

Greene also criticised Trump’s decision to call her a “traitor”, saying “that is so extremely wrong, and those are the types of words used that can radicalise people against me and put my life in danger.”

On Sunday, Trump wrote on social media: “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Green is a disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY!”

Trump also called her “Wacky Marjorie” and said that if she decided to run in the midterm election, he would endorse a challenger against her.

On X, Greene said that Trump’s “traitor” rhetoric “only divides our country even more”.

“I stood with President Trump when almost no one else would. I campaigned for him all over this country and spent millions of my own dollars helping him get elected,” Greene said, noting that she still wants to see the Trump administration “succeed for the American people”.

“I believe in transparency. That’s why I’ve pushed to release the Epstein files. Survivors deserve the truth, and I won’t apologise for standing with them.”

Greene questioned why Trump is pushing so hard to keep the files hidden, but said she believes Epstein’s victims who have told her that Trump did nothing illegal.

“I have no idea what’s in the Epstein files, but they are the ones asking for them to be released,” Greene wrote on X, referring to the women victim-survivors.

“Their voices should be the loudest, and I’m listening to them!!”

This week, the US House of Representatives is expected to hold a vote on whether to release the entire unclassified communications and documents.

Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, a co-sponsor of the bill (the Epstein Files Transparency Act), said in an interview with ABC News on Sunday that as many as 100 GOP members could vote in favour of releasing the Epstein files.
