Australian musician Sia has had her latest release debut at number one on the US Billboard chart.
Her latest release, 1000 Forms of Fear, has sold 52,000 copies in its first week, with the Adelaide-born singer topping the US albums chart for the first time.
Promotion of her newest work has helped produce a a certain flurry of interest in the singer, particularly in the US, where she has chosen to shun traditional publicity, opting to transform herself into a ‘promotional recluse’.
She’s put clauses in her contract stipulating that she isn’t required to do any media or tour the record to promote it. And she made headlines when she performed her chart-topping single Chandelier on US talk-show The Ellen DeGeneres Show with her back to the audience, and appeared on the cover of Billboard magazine last year with a bag over her head.
1000 Forms of Fear is the singer’s sixth album release, and also took out the number one spot on the ARIA album charts. Her last album, We are Born, was released in 2010 and debuted at number two on the ARIA charts.
In addition to topping the charts as a solo artist, Sia’s also collaborated with a number of international acts, providing vocals on global chart hits, and is regarded as one of the globe’s hottest songwriters, penning chart-topping hits for Beyonce, Rihanna and Kylie Minogue, who has also described her as one of the top 10 or top five ‘go to
songwriters’ in the world.
