The Australia arm of global law firm Dentons has announced that it is the first large law firm in the country to obtain a zero per cent median gender pay gap.
In a statement released this week, the company said the milestone was revealed after its completion of this year’s Workplace Gender Equality Agency compliance reporting.
Dentons Australia chair, Amber Warren described the results as “an extraordinary achievement” that demonstrates the firm’s position as a leader in gender equity within the legal industry.
“In just three years, Dentons has moved from a 15 per cent median gender pay gap in 2022, 7.1 per cent in 2023, 4.1 per cent in 2024 and now 0 per cent in 2025,” Warren said.
Earlier this year, Warren became the first female chair of Dentons in Australia, and will lead the firm’s Australian branch for the next two years.
Elise Ivory, partner and co-executive sponsor of Women United, Dentons’ gender advocacy group said the milestone was “not just a number” but rather “a reflection of our values and the inclusive culture we’ve cultivated.”
“Being the first Australian law firm to achieve a 0% median gender pay gap is a testament to our Dentons’ dedication to equity and the hard work of our team,” she said.
Fellow partner and co-executive sponsor of Women United, Brooke Spain described the achievement as “a direct result of our commitment to policies that support work-life balance, such as 26 weeks of paid family leave, bonus leave and flexible working arrangements.”
“Achieving this ahead of other firms further validates our approach and motivates us to continue leading by example,” Spain said.
In its press release, Dentons attributed its progress in gender pay equity to a number of strategies, including the adoption of inclusive role pathways where male employees are urged to take on support roles; remuneration audits where annual examinations ensure pay equity across each level; promoting women to partners and senior leadership positions based on merit and its Gender 360 Strategy Equity from Every Angle — a framework centred on recruitment, retention, and promotion reflecting the needs of all.
Warren said the Gender 360 Strategy and the company’s commitment to gender equity have helped it make recent advances in this area, including the latest achievement.
“We are committed to creating a workplace where every individual can thrive [and] is valued for their contribution,” she said.
