We just lost another female ASX 200 female CEO

The representation of women at the top of ASX 200 organisations just took a dive, with Sydney Airport CEO Kerrie Mather announcing her retirement this morning.

Mather is currently one of just nine female CEOs on the ASX 200. At the beginning of the year that figure was ten, prior to Laura McBain’s resignation as CEO of Bellamy’s.

Mather steps down after 15 years in  the business, the past six as CEO, but is expected to remain as CEO until her replacement is found.

While there has been some progress on the number of women to fill the CEO spot at our largest listed organisations, from a figure of just two in 2002, and four in 2008, change has been painstakingly slow. And once again, when the number of women in key leadership positions is so low, the loss of just one woman sees a considerable drop in the proportion of women included.

Women hold 15.4% of CEO positions across the wider business community, according to WGEA’s latest survey, along with 27.4% of key management personnel positions and 14.2% of chair positions.

The better news is that we’re making some progress when it comes to the number of women on boards – now at 25% across the ASX 200, according to the latest AICD data, with the AICD claiming its 2018 target of 30% is on track.

However, as of the end of February, there were still 14 companies on the ASX 200 with no female directors. The list is below, including the names of their chairmen.
