Our plans for a big bold future at Women’s Agenda

The team that brings you Women’s Agenda every day (as well as our related events) is small, dedicated and absolutely passionate about the community we’re building.

We’re also keen to demonstrate the type of work we advocate – flexibility – and continually push the vital issues we believe are necessary to promote workplace gender equality: equal pay; accessible and affordable childcare; women in leadership; and women’s health and safety.

Managing all of this and editing the site is a shared process – which is why you may have noticed there are two of us who bring you this column (called the Editor’s Agenda) and determining the daily content.

The sharing aspect’s something that came about due to changes in personal circumstances. When I went on maternity leave in 2013, Georgie Dent came in to manage my role. Having just completed her second stint of maternity leave, she proved the role could be flexible, working the equivalent of four days over five.

When I returned to the office – also working four days – Georgie stayed on as an associate editor, working three days. With new initiatives, more events and our new online mentoring platform My Agenda, the additional woman-power was certainly needed.

Things have been going well but there’s no such thing as being comfortable in this business,so we’re shifting again!

As I’m moving into an Associate Publisher role, which includes managing the strategy of the publication, partnerships and our events, Georgie is moving into the position of Editor, managing our content each day, with the exception of Tuesday which is when I regularly get to step back in.

Women’s Agenda is continually getting bigger and better. It’s moved from being much more than a website to being a community of like-minded women and men who are just as passionate as we are about changing the way we work and live, and opening more career and lifestyle choices to everyone.

We hope you like being a part of what we do as much as we enjoy creating it.

And we’re sure you’ll like what’s on offer in the months to come as we look to expand. Here’s a small taste of what you can expect:

  • Pitching competition: The Rexona Clinical Women’s Agenda Pitch Off

Nominations for our business pitching competition are closing very soon. This is your opportunity to get your big idea heard, pitch in front of a panel of amazing judges and be seriously set up for success. We’re talking prizes that include office space, continued publicity, mentors and access to potential investors. Check it out.

  • Awards: The NAB Women’s Agenda Leadership Awards

Moving into the event’s third year, we’ll soon be opening nominations for the 2015 NAB Women’s Agenda Leadership Awards. The awards celebrate emerging leaders and the men and women who help women achieve, with the annual awards ceremony to take place on the 28th February 2015 in Sydney.

  • Guest editors

In order to keep challenging and shaking things up, we’ll be introducing a range of guest editors on the site in the coming months – leading and inspiring women who’ll step in for a day to share their own views and shape the content.

  • Lists: Showcasing talented, successful women

We know women, as well as those who choose alternative career and leadership paths, don’t always get the attention and recognition they require in the mainstream media – but that’s not the case on Women’s Agenda! Following the success of our first Part Time Power List, as well as our Real Role Models Series, we’ll be bringing you more lists of fabulous people leading and challenging in the workplace.

  • Stories: More great, original content

Women’s Agenda reports on the issues that matter to you, in a way that gets people talking and leaders responding. We work with a range of excellent contributors and highly experienced journalists to keep you informed of what’s going on where. We have a number of important surveys and research projects in the making that will not only tell the true story of how we’re working, but will also become great tools for advocating for change.

  • Advice: Great tips on career, health and balance

Women’s Agenda is already working with leading coaches, mentors and thinkers to bring you daily careers advice and we’ll be expanding this over the coming months. We’ll also be consolidating some of the existing content we do have (there are literally hundreds of articles addressing these themes in our database) to put the best tips and tricks at your fingertips.

  • The personal touch: Networking, panel sessions and seminars

Watch out for a full 2015 calendar of great panel sessions, networking events, seminars and other in-person opportunities in the months to come.

  • My Agenda: Online courses and mentoring

We’re currently developing a number of short courses, ebooks, events and other benefits for My Agenda, the members’ section of Women’s Agenda. This platform has been created for those looking to take the next step in their career, offering direct access to coaches, mentors, regular webinars and like-minded women who’re looking to get ahead.

  • We’re also very happy to remind you that former Private Media CEO and Women’s Agenda publisher Marina Go continues to sit on our advisory board, and is still writing a weekly column.
