Five apologies working mums needn’t make

Are you guilty of making any of the below apologies? If so, you’re not alone. But it might be time to stop.

The workforce is changing and is slowing becoming more flexible. Working Mums, and indeed stay-at-home Dads, are changing the face of it.

Below our friends from Financy share five common excuses that working mothers do not need to make.

1. Business call tantrums

You’re on a business call and your child chucks a tantrum in the background, so you apologise profusely to the caller who knows you’re working from home. Stop apologising — it’s multi-tasking at its best.

2. Daycare pick-up

You leave work early because you’ve “got to rush to a meeting”, but that meeting is actually child care pick up. Routines are part of life and none are more important than the routines you set for your children

3. Messy house

You work part time from home to be near your kids and your house is a mess. So you apologise to everyone who visits your house, including your best friends, courier and the dog. Seriously, did you just apologise to your dog?

4. Rescheduling meetings

You have to reschedule an important meeting because your child has to go to the doctor. Don’t apologise for being responsible and caring for the health of your littlest loved ones.

5. Messy appearance

Your appearance has taken a backseat and you arrive at a meeting with only mascara on, your hair in a dishevelled bun and bags under your eyes because you’ve been up all night feeding the baby. Wear this look with pride — you’re doing your absolute best for your family by being back at work. You rock mum!
