Retired Matildas player Lydia Williams has been appointed as one of four new commissioners on the board of the Australians Sports Commission.

She joins the board alongside Dr Chloe Flutter, Selwyn Button and Andrew Purchas. Lynne Anderson has also been reappointed as a commissioner for a further three-year term.

Nick Green has been appointed as deputy chair.

Chair of the Australian Sports Commission Kate Jenkins welcomed the new commissioners to their roles.

“The ASC is thrilled to welcome Lydia, Andrew, Chloe, and Selwyn to the Board. Their diverse expertise and passion for sport will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Australian sport,” Jenkins said.

“I would also like to acknowledge the exceptional contributions of outgoing Commissioners Andrew Ireland, Kurt Fearnley AO PLY, and Amanda Laing, who have provided distinguished service and left a lasting legacy for the ASC and Australian sport.”

The Australian Sports Commission’s new appointments come at an exciting time for Australian sport, especially as it prepares to host the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In June last year, Williams gave an emotional farewell to the game she loves, retiring from football after an impressive 19-year career. Her insights as a professional player will be invaulable to the board of the Australian Sports Commission.

Meanwhile, Dr Chloe Flutter is a senior leader across the public and private sectors with expertise in organisational strategy and policy. She is a former AIS scholarship holder as part of the swimming program.

Selwyn Button is a leader in Indigenous education and community engagement and is currently a Productivity Commissioner.

Andrew Purchas is a sports administrator with expertise in technology and governance and is the co-founder of Pride in Sport.
