Mansplaining: What happens when men talk over women

Here come the mansplainers!

The good folks over at ATTN have created a video to explain what mansplaining is, and released a call for men to stop talking over women.

The ATTN video kicks off with a fictional scene featuring Miranda from Sex In The City being mansplained during a business meeting, and then features interviews on programs such as Fox News and Channel 10’s The Project. Katy Gallagher also features prominently, when she told Mitch Fifield during Senate Estimate that she was “enjoying the mansplaining”. The video depicts Gallagher as a woman who’s “had enough” and is now calling out mansplaining when she sees it.

It’s been viewed more than 9,870,000 times. So somebody’s getting the message.

ATTN defines Mansplaining as being “When a man explains something to a woman in a patronising way.” It usually starts with an interruption, ATTN explains, and then continues with the man believing he knows more than a woman about a topic.

And guess what? Plenty of Mansplainers have had their say on the nerve of ATTN daring to try and explain what mansplaining’s all about.
