An unlikely figure has launched an online petition to get Taylor Swift to bring her ‘Eras’ tour to Queensland, after the pop singer announced shows for Sydney and Melbourne.
Liberal MP Andrew Wallace, who calls himself an ‘unashamed Swifitie’, is behind the petition and used a press conference in parliament on Thursday to push the case for Queensland to be included in the tour.
“As the dad of four daughters ranging from 20 to 31, I have spent many years driving my daughters around listening to Taylor Swift and I am an absolute convert,” Wallace said.
“Taylor, I’m asking you, begging you, I’m pleading with you. I’ll get down on my knees if I have to. Please come to Queensland. There are so many Swiftie fans in Queensland. I am one of them.”
Wallace shared the petition this week, writing that he was calling on Frontier Touring to bring Swift to Queensland, particularly to the Sunshine Coast – “the heart of Queensland’s Swiftie population”, according to the politician.
“I’m a proud Queenslander who knows that thousands of fans are disappointed to see Queensland left off the Eras Tour map.”
“Interestingly there is about a week in between her concerts and that is a perfect opportunity to come to Queensland, and in particular the Sunshine Coast. We have a terrific stadium on the Sunshine Coast, where Elton John performed on his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour. It’s a perfect opportunity – I haven’t checked with council yet but I’m sure we could sort something out.”
This week, Swift announced she would be coming to Australia in Feburary 2024, playing three shows in Sydney and two shows in Melbourne. She did not announce shows in any other Australian state or in New Zealand. Fans are expected to scramble when tickets for the Sydney and Melbourne shows go on sale next week.
