Leigh Sales has been nominated for the coveted Gold Logie for the first time in her career, in recognition of her roles as the former host of the ABC’s 7.30 and host of Australian Story.
Sales is nominated for the award that acknowledges Australia’s most popular television personality and finds herself up against tough competition in Osher Günsberg, Hamish Blake, Julia Morris, Shaun Micalef, Sonia Kruger and Mark Coles Smith.
The winner is decided by public vote and will be announced at an awards show in Sydney on July 30.
In a touching tribute to her friend and Chat 10 Looks 3 co-host, Annabel Crabb wrote about Sales’ nomination on Instagram, saying: “No one else on Australian TV combines the smarts, toughness, blistering hard work, integrity and incisiveness of this woman, while also being the most hilarious daggy bogan I know.”
“She is a resolute non red-carpeteer and never minds being photographed looking like the robber’s dog. She’s moved to tears by the MOST ridiculous things but she’s afraid of nothing. I genuinely have no idea how she votes. She will always speak up and question things even when there is a cost to her. She’s a megastar but not given to gossip, intrigue or time wasting.”
There are 6 nominees for the Silver Logie ‘Best Actress’ award, including Home and Away’s Ada Nicodemou, Emily Symons and Lynne McGranger, Wellmania’s Celeste Barber, and Fisk’s Julia Zemiro and Kitty Flanagan.
Meanwhile the category for most popular new talent is dominated by women, including Amy Shark, Ayesha Madon, Chloe Hayden, Flex Mami, and Lilliana Bowrey. Kween Kong, from RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under is also on the list.
In the ‘Most Oustanding Actress’ category, there are 6 nominees including Claudia Jesse, Claudia Karvan, Harriet Dyer, Kate Mulvany, Marta Dusseldorp and Milly Alcock.
The 63rd Logie Awards will be broadcast on Channel Seven on July 30.
