Surfer Sally Fitzgibbons, AFLW player Erin Phillips, cricketer Alyssa Healy, hurdler Michelle Jenneke and former netball and AFLW player Sharni Layton, rounded out the top ten searches.

The study was conducted by PureGym, who are looking to celebrate women in sport following the successful Tokyo Olympics.

Internationally, Ex-UFC and WWE superstar Ronda Rousey came out as the most popular, with fans from all over the globe. US gymnasts Simone Biles came in second, followed by mixed martial artist Paige Vanzant.

The global top ten also featured well-known names like football player Alex Morgan, and Venus Williams.

“In this summer alone, we’ve seen so many sportswomen storm the Olympic stage, with new world records and courageous decisions that have set great examples for any aspiring young athletes,” a spokesperson from PureGym said.

“We wanted to celebrate these amazing women and others, so hope our findings and the resulting maps help people to discover some new sporting idols from around the world.”
