At just 25, Australian golfer Hannah Green has become the first woman in history to win a professional, full-length mixed-gender tournament after securing the TPS Murray River championships on Sunday by four shots.

The Perth-based golfer took home the $200,000 prize money after taking control of the tournament on the back nine with a chip-in for eagle on the par-five 10th at Cobram Barooga Golf Club in Victoria.

“I feel amazing. I just feel so grateful that I came, it wasn’t in my plans to play here,” Green said after her win. “I was going to go back to Perth – but things happen for a reason and I am really glad I made it.”

“It was really nice to have a buffer coming down the last because I was really nervous.”

Her five-under par 66 saw her end on 20-under, beating Perth’s Hayden Hopewell (last-round 65) and Sydney’s Andrew Evans (70).

Green, who was the Women’s PGA champion in 2019, competed with some of Australia’s best male and female golfers, including Grace Kim, Momoka Kobori and Austin Bautista.

Her win marks the first time a woman has won a 72-hole mixed tournament at a pro-level.

Green, currently ranked 30th in the world, competed in the Women’s Individual event at the 2020 Olympics, narrowly missing out on a medal. Her latest win is her ninth in her professional career.

The TPS Murray River is part of PGA Australia’s new Players Series which allows men and women to compete on adjusted tees, yet still on level terms.

Last year, Australian Su Oh claimed equal third at the TPS Victory, which was the best result secured by a female at the time.
