Celebrating Iconic Australian beauty looks

Australian ‘beauty’ truly spans the gamut. Cultural diversity, and national beauty icons that represent a veritable variety of gorgeousness have given us plenty of inspiration, and have given Aussie women a pretty great name for beauty world-wide.

And whether it’s 100% natural, true or not, I’ve rounded up a few of the characteristics typically thought of as ‘Australian beauty’. Even if we don’t look like or embody this everyday, it’s still fun to take a trip down(under) iconic Aussie beauty lane.

“Sun-kissed”
Whether this is a ‘good’ characteristic or not, skin-kissed is one of the words that comes to mind when thinking Australian beauty. But really, it makes sense considering our climate and how close many of us reside to the beach.

But no matter the colour of your skin, we all now know the dangers of excessive sun exposure. Time to get on the SPF bandwagon! Don’t just think beach and body application either. You should use an SPF on your face everyday too. Try the ModelCo SPF 50 Daily Face Mattifying Sunscreen + Lip Balm for a formula that won’t mess up your makeup application, or your skin. Apply after moisturiser, and before your makeup every day.

And to ace that sun-kissed look, without any sun damage, employ a quality faux tanner if you prefer the all over bronzed look. The Tuscan Tan Wash Off Bronzing Mousse is a great instant option. Plus, because it’s a wash off, you can wear on the weekend only, and not feel too ‘tanned’ and party ready at work on Monday.

“Natural/ outdoorsy”
Even if we Aussie ladies aren’t really that big on outdoor activities, or ‘getting back to nature’ every weekend, we are becoming more natural in our beauty routines and plenty of Aussie beauty brands tailor to this ‘green’ preference now.

Whether you are a fan of the great outdoors or not, there are a couple natural beauty products that’ll suit you either way. Firstly, WOTNOT wipes. Outdoorsy beauty? These natural and organic little wipes are perfect for removing any grime, mess and sweat. But they also make for the kindest and most nourishing makeup removing wipes I’ve ever found.

Another great, natural and Australian beauty product? The Kosmea Rescue Balm. It’s a natural healing salvation that provides intense moisture and nourishment, and forms a protective barrier on skin. Ace for water-babies this summer, or simply for helping repair dry skin and sore cuticles.

“Glowing”
Maybe it’s all that supposed outdoor activity we’ve been doing, but ‘glowy and fresh’ are a few of the other synonyms for ‘Australian beauty’. And let’s be honest – who would say no to the compliment of glowing and fresh skin? Get it with exfoliation – try Aussie beauty golden product, AlphaH Liquid Gold. It helps to regenerate skin, removing dead skin-cells and killing any dullness fast for those of us that like to see immediate beauty results. We’re busy after all!

For glow you can be proud of, you’ll also need to hydrate and make sure your skin is getting enough moisture on the daily. Try the Natural Green Brand Tepezcohuite Cream – it contains anti-aging and blemish fighting properties in one kind-to-sensitive skin formula, so it has all major basis covered.

Adding a subtle golden shimmer to your makeup routine will also help give you a little extra glow. Try the Talavou Naturals Illuminsor Lustre. Even if you have a darker complexion, the shimmering components will highlight your cheek-bones, for a subtle, summery feel that’s still office appropriate.

“Bright and bubbly”
Perhaps it’s all those foreigners who think our accents make us seem fun, and carefree that gives us the bright and bubbly stereotype, but hey, we’ll take it! We’ll also take a bright and bold lipstick to hit home that super bright and fun feel. Plus, colourful lipsticks have been trending in Australian beauty circles for quite a while now. If you haven’t started a bold lip colour collection by now, now is the time!

Start with a bright red or pink – you’ll get the most wear out of them. I like the Australian branded, yet oh-so-French sounding Savoir Faire Lipstick in Risque – the perfect red, for work or play.
