‘I’m going to pass out’: Taylor Swift Eras Tour staff gifted huge bonuses

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has gifted nearly $197 million (USD) in bonuses to the crew behind her Eras Tour, according to her new Disney+ documentary, Taylor Swift: The End of an Era. The payments were accompanied by handwritten notes and delivered personally to crew members, highlighting the scale of the team effort required to stage the record-breaking tour.

The 36-year-old chart-topper gives each member a handwritten note with a personal message from her. What she doesn’t reveal in advance is that the gesture also includes a surprise cash bonus inside the envelope.

In a clip shared on social media, Swift tells the crew, “Everybody has the same message on their cards so I was hoping you could open it together. Before you open yours I just want to say you guys this leg of the tour has been harder than anything I’ve ever done in a live setting and you guys have taken this on with such excitement, such curiosity and the endurance you’ve shown. The spirit you’ve shown. How much you’ve given to these crowds, that gives to me every single night. The tour has done really well thanks to all of our hard work. So if you could kindly read the message.”

A crew member named Cam is the first to open the gift. He reads aloud: “Dearest Cam, we’ve travelled the world like we set out to do. We’ve dazzled the crowds but we’ve missed family too. My full gratitude doesn’t come from a bank but here’s a [inaudible] dollars just to say thanks. Love Taylor.” While the exact bonus amount is deliberately not disclosed, the crew member’s emotional reaction makes clear the payment was substantial.

Visibly shocked, Cam says: “I’m gonna pass out.”

The bonuses were distributed across the wide-ranging tour team, including dancers, band members, production and technical crews, riggers, truck drivers, caterers, wardrobe and makeup staff, choreographers, and security teams. Individual amounts reportedly reached up to $150,000, though the totals varied depending on role and contribution. Footage from the documentary shows crew members laughing, crying, and expressing disbelief at the size of the gift.

The Eras Tour itself, which ran from 2023 through 2024, was one of the most successful in music history. Across 149 shows, it grossed over $2 billion, making it the highest-grossing tour on record. The scale of the tour demanded long hours and extensive travel from the crew, with many members spending months away from home.

Swift began distributing bonuses after major legs of the tour, starting with more than $55 million following the North American segment in August 2023, and continued the practice through to the final performances in December 2024. The documentary highlights her personal involvement, showing her spending weeks writing individual messages to accompany the bonuses.

The gesture has prompted wider discussion about pay and recognition in the live-music industry, where large production teams often work long, demanding hours with comparatively little public acknowledgment. While top-earning artists sometimes give bonuses to crew members, the scale of Swift’s distribution, combined with the personal attention shown in handwritten notes, is considered exceptional.

The documentary also provides a behind-the-scenes look at the complex logistics and technical skill required for a tour of this size, capturing both the performances and the extensive work of those who make them possible. Crew members have described the bonuses as transformative.
