This was 2022: Our Women’s Agenda media highlights

When ‘woman’ was listed as the ‘word of the year’ by Dictionary.com, we weren’t surprised.

2022 has been a pivotal year for women, locally here and internationally.

It’s been a year of women rising politically in Australia to put integrity, equality and climate action on the agenda. A year of women rising in the streets of Iran, saying enough to the regime oppressing them, and a year of women in Ukraine taking key roles in defending the country.

Sadly, 2022 will be remembered for highlighting how quickly hard-worn rights for women can be lost – with the overturning of Roe V Wade in the US, and just this week the Taliban further restricting access to education for women and girls in Afghanistan. We’ve also seen the continued impact of climate change on women and girls locally here and across the world. While 50 women have so far lost their lives in Australia to violence this year.

But there have also been plenty of wins and much cause for hope.

Record numbers of women in Parliament– in New Zealand, Kenya, Australia and elsewhere. The Teal wave in Federal politics. New milestones reached on women on boards, and some incredible new women-led businesses changing industries. Legislative wins that will see extended paid parental leave for new parents, expanded support on early childhood education, and new measures requiring workplaces to prevent sexual harassment and bullying.

We’ve covered it all on Women’s Agenda – aiming always to inform, inspire and keep issues on the agenda that may otherwise go ignored.

And we do this as a small team, with no outside investment: a team brimming with talent that we’re incredibly proud of.

Women’s Agenda continues to grow thanks to our partners and the projects we create with their support and sponsorship, such as podcasts, the Leadership Awards, roundtables, special reports, partner content series and more.

Our partnerships enable us to continually invest back into our team and quality journalism, ensuring we have the resources to cover key stories every day.

We’re proud particularly to have kept covering issues including:

  • How state and federal government agendas affect women
  • The role of women in the defence of Ukraine
  • The protests in Iran and plight of women who have been arrested
  • Continued focus on women and girls in Afghanistan
  • Highlighting women’s “firsts” internationally, as heads of state, in business, on sporting fields and more
  • Key research concerning women’s health, women in business, climate change and on domestic and family violence
  • The significant influence of the women’s vote in Australia
  • Women’s access to key and lifesaving services

In addition, we’re proud to have pursued some incredible projects in 2022, often in partnership with clients:
