Will tabloid hatred against Meghan Markle ever end?

Meghan the Duchess of Sussex, and her husband, Prince Harry the Duke of Sussex, revoked their royal titles and left the UK for a reason.

Last year, in the now-infamous interview with Oprah, the 41-year old former actor spoke about being isolated and ostracised from the royal family — at one point conceding she had experienced suicidal ideations.

She also revealed how a member of the family had expressed concerns [about] how dark his skin might be when he was born,” referring to her first-born son, Archie.

Since arriving in the UK last week after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, Markle has once again been catnip for British tabloids to launch their arsenal attack against the mother of two.

And it appears that they will do anything to find ammunition for their cultural insurgency against Markle.

Including foregrounding one public spectator outside Windsor Castle over the weekend, whose behaviour has already spurned several online takes. Apparently, Markle was ‘snubbed’ by this random stranger, who was seen lowering her gaze as the Duchess passed, later turning to a fellow crowd member and ‘making a face’. (See the footage above yourself!)

On Twitter, this woman’s actions were commended, with a flurry of tweets sparking divisive debates.

“Lady in the blue having none of it,” one tweet read.

“Brilliant! We are all that lady in blue,” another read.

The hatred against Markle appears rife on Twitter, where tweets are fuelling the media’s thirst for building their case against the Duchess.

One Twitter user complained: “The British don’t dislike Meghan Markle because of her race, we dislike her because she’s trashed our country and our royal family. Our dislike for her is perfectly justified.”

Looks like Laura Kuenssberg was right when she tweeted:

“The British media have explained they’re extremely angry at Meghan Markle for turning up. They have also confirmed they would’ve been absolutely disgusted if she’d stayed home.”

Markle will be criticised no matter what she does. Some users on Twitter have even blamed her for the Queen’s death, with one stating: “the Queen is seriously ill and it’s definitely all Meghan Markle’s fault.”

Yet some have countered these attacks by pointing out the absence of criticism against Prince Andrew’s criminally-adjacent past.

As one Twitter user rightly put it: “I think Prince Andrew’s pedophilia did more to “tarnish the image” of the Royal Family tbh rather than Meghan Markle speaking about her mental health struggles and the racism she experienced at the hands of this institution.”

Another wrote; “I don’t really care too much about the queen, but I really feel I need to remind everyone that Meghan Markle got punished worse for being black and a divorcee by the Royal Family than Prince Andrew did for being a pedophile.”

British tabloid The Daily Mail has been called out by several commentators, including author Edwin Hayward, who identified the paper’s bias against Markle.

“The Daily Mail’s industrial levels of hate-mongering aimed at Meghan Markle barely slowed as the nation mourned,” he tweeted over the weekend.

“Run your eye down these 15 headlines from the last 48 hours, then consider they only ran one negative piece about Prince Andrew.”

Headlines included “Prince Harry ‘told’ by Charles that Meghan ‘not welcome’ at Balmoral when Queen died,” “Jeremy Clarkson makes savage swipe at Meghan as he pens emotional Queen tribute,” and “‘Meghan turns everything into victimhood’ Vine panellist hits out at ‘lucky’ comment’”.

Any wonder Markle and her husband left the monarchy and the UK?
