UN Women released their flagship report Progress of the World’s Women 2019-2020: Families in a Changing World on Tuesday.

The so-called “chore wars”, long a series of skirmishes on the feminist front line (or in pretty much every average household) are about to go nuclear.

The 2019 State of the World’s Fathers report, produced by Promundo, calls for nothing less than full equality between women & men, at work and at home.

Women comprised 40% of recipients of Queen’s Birthday Honours across all tiers of the awards, the highest percentage of women recipients in history.

When approached by media news site B&T about being part of a debate on quotas, my response was emphatic: “I’d love to… But only if I’m on the pro-quotas side.

According to the first global index on gender equality no country in the world is on track to achieve gender equality by 2030 as hoped. 

The list also features Melinda Gates, Michelle Obama, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Tarana Burke and Winnie Byanyima.

Gender equality is still light years away. So why are women still struggling to make gains in our parliament and what does this say about our democracy?
