A 16-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly stabbing his mother to death and seriously injuring his younger sister in a suspected family violence homicide.
Police attended a home in Bentley in Perth’s south-east on Tuesday morning at about 6.15am. Two crime scenes were established after the 35-year-old woman’s body was found in the house, and a 12-year-old girl was found injured about 600 metres away after she managed to call the police.
According to WA Police Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo, the girl had managed to escape after she was allegedly stabbed by her brother. She was taken to Perth Children’s Hospital to receive treatment for apparent stab wounds. She is in a serious but stable condition.
The boy has been charged with murder and attempted unlawful killing, and will appear at Perth Children’s Court today.
The 16-year-old boy was known to police, with detectives still working to examine his past interactions.
Securo said members of the public intervened to assist the girl when she fled the scene and was located along a nearby highway.
“We’re very thankful that members of the public stopped and assisted the female,” she said.
“This incident will have a significant impact on the family, friends and loved ones of those involved … our thoughts are with all involved, especially the 12-year-old girl who remains in hospital,” she said.
“We ask that their privacy be respected.”

According to Sherele Moody’s Australian Femicide Watch, the 35-year-old woman is the 38th Australian woman killed this year.
