‘My work is not done’: Kristy McKellar named 2016 Agenda Setter of the Year

Kristy McKellar:

Family violence and social change consultant Kristy McKellar was named Agenda Setter of the Year at the Women’s Agenda Leadership Awards Wednesday (5th October).

McKellar is influencing Australia’s powerful leaders to create a national response to family/domestic violence, respect and equality.

A survivor of family violence, and with a background in social work, she advocates on the issue by highlighting system failures and offering advice and ideas for reform.

In an unprecedented event, she addressed both houses of the Victorian Parliament in a unique joint sitting on family violence, and has significantly contributed to the Victorian Royal Commission into Family Violence.

McKellar took the stage and shared how she’s dedicated to working for individuals to pursue a life they never thought was possible for them.

“I knew early on that I wanted to improve outcomes for the disadvantaged,” she said. “I am proud of my achievements thus far and want to think all people who believed in my ability, who have supported my work and who have helped me personally in being able to succeed.

“My work is not done. I’m determined to keep pushing boundaries, to keep asking tough question, and to keep seeking ground breaking change.”

McKellar finished by dedicating the award to her daughter.

McKellar’s win was celebrated widely on social media, with Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins congratulating her on the win, along with Elizabeth Broderick and numerous other men and women praising her work.

McKellar was picked from a line-up of eight incredible women, all committed to pushing for change in their area of work.
