Lisa Annese has been named as the next CEO of Chief Executive Women (CEW), commencing her role in January next year.
Annese has been the CEO of Diversity Council Australia, a key partner of CEW, for the last 10 years. She also currently sits on the NSW Women’s Advisory Council, is a non-executive director of Women for Election Australia and Amnesty International Australia.
President of CEW Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz said Annese’s experience working in gender equality throughout her career made her the right fit for the role.
“We are thrilled to welcome Lisa to CEW, as we continue to advance our vision of women leaders empowering women for the benefit of all,” Lloyd-Hurwitz said.
“Lisa has an outstanding career in advancing gender equality both in Australia and internationally and brings a wealth of experience in advocating for women in the workplace.
“I look forward to working with Lisa as we continue to advance women’s leadership across our nation.”
Annese said she is thrilled with the opportunity to join the CEW team.
“I am delighted to be joining CEW as its new CEO and I look forward to leading this important organisation into its next chapter, to supporting its esteemed membership and advancing equity for all women in Australia,” Annese said.
Sunita Gloster, Board Chair of Diversity Council Australia (DCA), said Annese has left an “indelible mark” on the organisation, and she will be missed.
“From world-class, evidence-based research tools to inspiring events, knowledge programs, and expert advice, Lisa has left an indelible mark on DCA’s mission,” Gloster said.
“Her tireless advocacy for policy reforms has improved workplace rights for marginalised groups and contributed to a more productive and equitable economy.
“She leaves a legacy of inspiration and progress for our members, the wider D&I community, and workplaces at large. We will miss her passion, vision, and friendship. We thank Lisa for her years of dedication and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”
Prior to joining DCA in 2014, Annese worked as a Diversity Practitioner at Corss Chambers Wesgarth. She also worked at the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, where she developed the first ever census of Australian Women in Leadership, the first ever Business Achievement Awards and the Employer of Choice for Women citation.
Other roles she has held in the past include serving on the Fair Work Commission Respect@Work working group, and the Attorney-General’s Respect@Work Council.
Annese will replace Sarah Rowley and Melanie Fernandez, the current co-interim CEOs of CEW, beginning her role on January 6, 2025.
