The Sydney-based business events and ideas business The Growth Faculty, founded by Karen Beattie, is expanding in to South East Asia, with Michelle Obama and Barack Obama to headline two separate events.

Both will be speaking at events in Singapore in December, two days apart. For Michelle Obama, it will be a chance to speak in a country that recently named her the most admired woman in the world, with the lawyer, global role model and former First Lady continuing to make grooves in her work championing gender equality, social justice and health care.

The Growth Faculty is based on the Northern Beaches, with a team of ten that have managed to bring out some of the most highly anticipated global speakers in recent years, including Hilary Clinton, Brene Brown, Malala Yousefzai and Simon Sinek.

New CEO Trent Brown said they anticipate holding three to four events annually in Singapore, bringing in global speakers every quarter. He added that as one of Asia’s central locations, many companies see Singapore as a great base and natural way to grow into Asia.

Heralded as one of the most admired and influential women of our time, Michelle Obama is set to share her extraordinary story, which she described in her 2018 memoir ‘Becoming’. The book became an instant hit, rising to the number one slot on the New York Times Best Sellers list within a week of its release. As of March this year, the book has sold more than 10 million copies.

During her time as First Lady between 2009 to 2017, her leadership centred around from key initiatives, including “Let’s Move”, a nationwide effort to combat childhood obesity, “Joining Forces”, to provide increasing support for services members and veterans, “Reach Higher”, promoting further education beyond high school and “Let Girls Learn”, advocating for more female students to attend school.

In the last week, Michelle Obama’s Penguin Random House revealed that a new book accompanying her memoir will be coming out in November.

Meanwhile, those attending the Barack Obama event can expect to learn more about his time in office as well as his current views on leadership.

The Growth Faculty founder Karen Beattie saw an opportunity to start bringing world-class speakers to large audiences in Australia following a chance offer to help organise an Anthony Robbins event in London.

Having previously run events for the Certified Practising Accountants Association, she later joined MYOB where she delivered roadshows to thousands of small and medium sized businesses, and saw “first hand how calming and empowering it was for them to know about change before it happened.”
