The Women’s Medal Tally following Day 5

The Women’s Medal Tally following Day 5 of the 2024 Paris Olympics

Women's Medal Tally on Day Five of the Paris Olympics

How are countries faring at the 2024 Paris Olympics when it comes to women winning medals?

At the end of Day Five in Paris, Australia continues to lead the Women’s Medal Tally. All seven gold medals Australia has won on the general tally have been won by women, the latest coming from Jessica Fox in the Canoe Slalom — her second gold of the Paris games.

Australia is two gold medals ahead of the next best, China, which lept ahead of the United States overnight following gold medals in diving and the cycling track park final.

The Women’s Medal Tally is presented by Women’s Agenda to offer a different take on the standard medal tallies shared during the Olympics. It calculates all medals won by women across the team and individual women’s events as well as the mixed-gender events.

On day five of the games, women have had a number of incredible moments, including Katie Ledecky becoming the first swimmer to win gold medals at four Olympic games after her dominating win in the women’s 1500m freestyle.

From Guatemala, Adriana Ruano won her country’s first ever Olympic gold medal after claiming victory in the trap shooting final in Paris. Even more impressive is Ruano’s backstory: she’s a former gymnast turned shooter, after a spinal injury ended her gymnastics career.

With this tally, we’re not only learning more about the unique stories of women winning medals, including so far women from Ukraine and Kosovo, but we also hope to highlight differences in how countries are faring when it comes to the general medal count and the women’s medal county.

The tally is updated daily, and features permanently here and below.
