How to: Get the Gatsby look for work

The hype around Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby just keeps getting bigger. Beauty-wise the film has also heralded a resurgance of 20’s style bold lips, luminous skin and twinkling eyes, not to mention finger waved bobs!

No longer the stuff of fancy dress parties, the following makeup looks can all be translated to day wear, even appropriate for the office. The key is in choosing only one Gatsby-esque beauty feature to wear at a time, and getting your hands on the right products.

The bold lip
Depending on your work environment, you have two options:

A bold red lip, like Carey Mulligan’s on the Cannes Red Carpet at The Great Gatsby opening, is a great option for a more formal office environment. Not too daring, a cherry red is classic vintage beauty at its best, and while it’s not as direct a reference as a deep wine hue, when paired with a simple base and a little black mascara, will still make you feel as glamorous as Daisy Buchanan. Try the Savoir Faire Lipstick in Risque.

If your office isn’t as traditional, it’s time to go a little darker and opt for a true 20’s style claret lip. The Bloom Lip Stain in Wine will make your lips look like Gatsby extras, plus, it is extremely long wearing, so will outlast your mid-morning coffee.

Luminous skin
Gatsby skin is light and bright and positively shining. To achieve the look for yourself, it’s simpler than you might think. Simply add a touch of liquid illuminator to your regular liquid foundation or bb cream before application. Mixing it in like this will create a lovely luminous glow all over. The MeMeMe Beat the Blues Illuminator is a great choice. It will give your complexion a little glow to last the day.

Sparkling eyes
Don’t shy away from a little glimmer in your eye makeup when it comes to office style. Glitter is a different story, but a touch of shimmer will not only help your eyes to pop, it can also make you appear more alert and fresh faced – perfect for beating the hump-day blues! Instead of wearing an all over shadow with glimmer, try an eyeliner instead. Natural or monochrome hues work best for the office and will flatter more eye colours. The Eye of Horus Bronze Liner suits hazel, brown, and green peepers whilst the Bloom Shadow Liner in Charcoal is great for blue and grey eyed ladies. Line very close to your lashes and add your favourite black mascara and you’ll be set!
